Tintwistle Villa manager, Billy Higginbottom, dedicated his side’s 4-0 away victory over Sheffield based Hunter’s Bar on Saturday to former defender Dave Hodgin who sadly passed away at just 34 years of age after collapsing on Boxing Day.

A minute’s silence held by referee Archie Anderson before the Hope Valley Premier League match was impeccably observed by both sets of players.

Eagle’s wings clipped

Tintwistle Athletic’s first team won 2-1 when they travelled to Eagle FC. Having trailed to a close-range header, they scored two second-half goals to claim the points.

The Hillmen built on their hammering of Ashton Athletic last time out with victory against fellow title contenders AFC Blackpool at Surrey Street on Saturday.

Glossop RUFC 19 Warrington 11

Warrington visited Hargate Hill with only two positions separating the two teams and Glossop having nicked the reverse fixture, winning 15-14.

Four-goal performance thrills North End boss

Glossop boss Paul Colgan could scarcely hide his delight after seeing the Hillmen emerge from their weather-enforced mid-winter break with a stunning 4-0 win at Ashton Athletic.
