LAST Friday saw a Glossop Select XI face a Sri Lankan XI in a Twenty20 fixture at North Road.
Given that nine of the Sri Lankan XI have played first class cricket, including a number of full international performances, the result was somewhat inevitable. However, those who attended the game were royally entertained by proceedings.
The Sri Lankans batted first and amassed 209, including major contributions from Ian Daniel (50 not out) of Ashton and Bathiya Perera (77 not out) of Glossop.
Glossop’s young side acquitted themselves well in the second innings and fell some 70 runs short of the target, Toft (42) and Bates (34) the main contributors.
Perera would also like to thank all of the people who were involved in his 2008 summer school, including the helpers, coaches and all attendees. Despite the summer’s poor weather, the school was once again well attended and the week was a success.
