Under threatening skies, Dinting travelled to Hayfield on Saturday with a sense of purpose despite having the league title wrapped up several weeks ago.

The Simmondley Lane outfit still had lots to play for with an eye on a recent league record points total of 378, lying seven points adrift before proceedings.

Glossop moved into third place in the JW Lees Lancashire County League with victory at Stand on Saturday.

It appeared unlikely that any play would take place given the standing water on the areas surrounding the playing surface.

Glossop CC’s run of good results came to an end on Saturday as they lost to probable league champions Prestwich at North Road.

Prestwich batted first and, after an opening stand of 72 between Thomas (38) and Gibson (34), Hargreaves took the first of five wickets when dismissing the former.

Bathiya Perera’s third century in as many innings helped Glossop consolidate their top five place with a 95-run win over Irlam on Saturday.

Despite inclement weather reducing the game to 40 overs per side the playing surface was true and dry; therefore, Glossop skipper Hargreaves had no hesitation in electing to bat.

Dinting bounced back from defeat the previous week with a five-wicket success against Birch Vale last weekend.
