Inspectors chalked up ‘good’ ratings for both St Mary’s Catholic primary school and its pre-school playgroup.
The school on Gladstone Street in Glossop received a ‘good’ rating for overall effectiveness and ‘outstanding’ ratings for children’s understanding of how to keep healthy.
Inspectors also praised the quality of provision at the playgroup.
“Children are happy, confident and eager to learn at this very welcoming setting,” said the report. “There are many opportunities to make choices about their own play and learning as they freely access a wide range of activities and resources.
“Children make good progress towards the early learning goals.”
They found that in the early years foundation stage, “the learning environment is stimulating and spacious, supporting learning well. The outdoor area is used well to extend classroom learning.”
Year six pupils are also said to be working at levels above those expected for their age.
It said: “Pupils are well-prepared for a smooth transition at the end of year six.”
The report added that the school enjoys above average attendance rates and pupils with special educational needs are also said to make good progress.
Headteacher Simon Groarke said: “It is testament to the hard work of the children, the dedication of all the staff and the support of our governors and parents. The strong caring ethos of the school makes it a delight for children and staff to come together every day to learn.
“We are a good school and with the good outcome for St Mary’s pre-school, it means we know that children will get quality education within a safe and happy environment from the age of three to when they leave at 11. It’s also rewarding to be praised by Ofsted regarding our focus on every aspect of the pupils’ well-being and efforts to make lessons enjoyable to support learning.” Tweet
