OLDHAM Athletic celebrated the 10th anniversary of Refugee Week by staging a successful six-a-side football tournament held at Chapel Road with the help of Oldham Library.
The celebrations kicked off at Oldham Library with live music performances by music fusion group Kokoriko, a talk by Dr Bailey from Oldham Unity (Refugee Support) and an exciting performance by Oldham Athletics new freestyle footballer.
The finale of the week was the tournament held at Chapel Road which saw 10 open age teams participating. The final was contested between Redstar Bengal and Real Madras. Both teams played the game in the right spirit and Redstar were the eventual victors of the tournament.
Said James Mwale from Oldham Athletic’s community trust team: "It was great to see all these teams come together through football to celebrate the 10th anniversary of refugee week.
"The tournament was played in the right spirit and everybody enjoyed the day."
