Nominations for this year's north west Fusion Awards is closing at the end of the month.

The awards recognise the commitment of individuals across communities who help make the north west a better place to live and work.

From those working in a voluntary capacity to those reaching new heights in their chosen career, the Fusion Awards wants to reward the endeavours of people doing great things to really make a difference in their communities.

The awards, now in their fifth year, aim to give recognition to those who take part in so much community work but do not always remain in the public domain. They are open to all regardless of culture, background or religion.

Event organiser Nina Khan said: "The Fusion Awards are a real celebration of the achievements of the community.

"The aim is to reward people from different backgrounds and cultures who help make the North West a better place to live and work. And that is what puts the Fusion Awards in a class of their own. The awards aim to be inclusive of the wider community and their efforts to promote community cohesion."

Categories include entrepreneur, community group, man of the year, woman of the year, sport, public service, community cohesion and youth leadership.

The nominees must be residents or working in the north west of England. Closing date for all applications is March 31st 2010. Nominations can be made online at www.thefusionawards.co.uk.

The Fusion Awards 2010 are sponsored and supported by Asian Image, UCLAN, Lancashire Constabulary, Blackburn With Darwen Council, Lancashire County Council, Exchange@Blackburn Cathedral, Carter Law Solicitors and Shahi Qila Restaurant.
