A BOLTON woman has spoken out after she was viciously attacked by a gang of 15 thugs outside her home.
Asiya Ugaradar, aged 30 and her sister-in-law Nurjahan Wadiwala, 37 had just returned from the mosque and were carrying home shopping when the angry mob kicked and punched the pair to the ground.
The attack on Isabel Walk, Daubhill, Bolton on 12 May 2008 was caught on CCTV and the footage was shown at Bolton Crown Court.
Four defendants who had pleaded guilty to affray, and seen on CCTV to join in the attack, were all given community sentences on Friday (4 December).
Mrs Ugaradar said the sentencing made a mockery of the attack.
She said: "We had parked our car to go home, when we were confronted by the gang.
"They were shouting at us but we didn't imagine that a bunch of men will be coward enough to attack two women but they did.
"They grabbed my hair underneath my veil and pulled me to the ground and then reigned punches and kicks at me. Every time I tried to get up I was punched again and even stamped on.
"These people were cowards to attack two women like that and they got off lightly.
"The sentences don't recognise the brutality of what me and my sister-in-law had been through. We escaped with serious injuries but it was a frightening experience and one that I wouldn't wish on anybody
She added: "Even now we are both petrified to leave the house. It has caused so much mental trauma and I still have nightmares about it."
Mubarak Patel, aged 26, of Longfield Road, Daubhill, Salim Patel, aged 42, of Ribblesdale Road, Daubhill, Saied Patel, aged 39, of St Mary’s Avenue, Deane, and Shamim Patel, aged 39, of Lindrick Terrace, Daubhill, were all given community sentences.
The court heard the pair were attacked after a along running feud between two families following a divorce and allegations of assault.
Russell Davies, defending Salim Patel, said the family was ashamed by the incident and wanted to apologise for what had happened.

MarxPace & Inamul- regardless of their culture or the religion they follow or to which country they belong, they are nutters and need to be taken off the streets. Im sure (unfortunately) there are people just like them in every society in every country. Ray Stay, give it a rest with the sarcastic remarks.
Asian sensation- what, are you like, 5? there is no need to show off with your ridiculous remarks especially since you are just a name sat behind a computer! Grow up!
Brock you seem to know so much about shariah law, you must work for their council. First of all, WHAT HAS SHARIAH LAW GOT TO DO WITH THIS ARTICLE? Lets get one thing clear here, shariah means God's Law which is not only used by muslims to resolve issues but also Christians and Jews. (Jews and Christians have their own set of rules they abide by which they consider sacred.) As soon as someone hears the word 'shariah' their hearts fill with terror and its automatically associated with crazy muslims and terrorists! Whereas in actual fact they are laws that deal with day to day life such as banking, business, divorce, politics, family, hygiene and social issues etc. Nobody is asking for shariah law to be introduced into this country or for the islamifisation of Europe.. shariah are just laws for muslims to abide by not non-muslims so basically it doesnt apply to you!
Islam preaches freedom of faith . Nobody is obliged to accept Islam : “There is no compulsion in religion…” (Al Quran 2:256) . Not only does Islam state freedom of faith , it also rebukes those who oblige people to embrace Islam . The Quran says : "And had your Lord willed, those on earth would have believed - all of them entirely. Then, would you compel the people in order that they become believers? "[Al-Quran 10:99] Not Only does Islam preach freedom of religion , but it also forbids Muslims from speaking ill of the deities worshipped by people of other faiths so that they do not speak ill of Allah. Such a scenario is against human dignity of both sides and would lead to mutual rejection and hatred . “Do not revile those whom they call upon besides God, lest they revile God out of spite in their ignorance. Thus, We have made alluring to each people its own doings. In the end will they return to their Lord and He shall then tell them the truth of what they did.” (Quran 6:108)
I've said time and time again women have a higher status than men in Islam but a few individuals seem to twist hadiths & ayahs to suit their own needs. Did you know there is a whole chapter on the Quran about women and their rights- have a look at Chapter 4 Surah Al-Nisa.
Some examples of womens rights are below:
1.The right and duty to obtain education.
2. The right to have their own independent property.
3. The right to work to earn money if they need it or want it.
4. Equality of reward for equal deeds.
5. The right to express their opinion and be heard.
6. The right to provisions from the husband for all her needs and more.
7. The right to negotiate marriage terms of her choice.
8. The right to obtain divorce from her husband, even on the grounds that she simply can't stand him. (pls note that divorce is the most disliked of the permissable acts but is a solution to an unhappy marriage)
9. The right to keep all her own money (she is not responsible to maintain any relations).
10. The right to get sexual satisfaction from her husband.
11. custody of their children after divorce.
12. to refuse any marriage that does not please them
and the list goes on and on...
Which other holy book has given a woman her utmost rights? we should all respect each others religions whether we agree with the teachings or not. You need to stop being so judgemental about other people's faith because that makes you nearly as bad as those who incite hatred towards non-muslims. Islam teaches that all mankind are equal, our beloved Prophet said 'O people, Remember that your Lord is One. An Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a black has no superiority over white, nor a white has any superiority over black, except by piety and good action (Taqwa).''
Also the Quran says that we're all created of a single soul " Oh humanity , be conscious of your Lord , who created you of a single soul " [4:1) So we should all come together rather than attack each other. Remove your deep-set misconceptions and you will remove huge a barrier thats what i say!
Peace out everyone.....

Have you been Saudi Arabia, Iran, Nigeria? Remind me how rape victims are treated in the UK? They are degraded in the court rooms and the UK has one of the lowest conviction rates for Rape. Besides the reason why you get different answers for Sharia in different countries is because Sharia Law like the common law used in countries like the UK and USA are interpreted differently.
Ive posted a BBC link to show how Israel treats Muslim women. I guess we should be following their example

The woman you talk about with 9 children having to cook and clean most likely doesnt know her islamic rights and hasnt been informed by her husband because he may be ignorant of her rights- it is not obligatory (fard) that she serves her extended family but can do so out of choice-its not even obligatory upon her to breasfeed her children but she does this out of love and choice in both situations and for this she will be rewarded. These types of men on the other hand think they are superior and believe they have the upper hand- all down to culture and their upbringing! We shouldnt stereotype because not all muslim men (and in general men) are like that! Allah says in the Quran: “…And live with them in kindness…” (Quran 4:19). Women are not slaves but to be treated with the highest regard and love. Im not 'throwing islamic text' it is called QUOTING!
All praise is to Allah swt that He created me a woman subanallah! I can understand why you would think that women in other countries are not treated equally-this also boils down to the selfish leaders in some of our muslim countries and our media which sometimes encourage false stereotypes. Coming from a educational media background- i can tell you in all honesty that many leading national papers will always publish stories in the way they want you to feel about it. Its called YELLOW JOURNALISM!
An example is in Saudi ( newspaper article i read many years ago), a woman was raped by two men when she went to meet her ex-boyfriend, one of whom was her ex-boyfriend. The woman was lashed because she violated the rule that a women cannot travel more than a certain distance without a mahram (umarriageble kin) for her safety, and she was obviously going to see a boyfriend. This was splashed all over the news and sensationalised giving everyone a distorted message of islam that the woman was punished while the men were let off scot- free= that muslims think rape is ok. No-one reported that in actual fact the men were also lashed many more times and then jailed for 15 years for the rape. Men have a greater responsibility in Islam, hence greater punishment! And yes a lot of religious teachings have been revealed and written down but in all honesty how many people (including yourself) do you know that follow their religious teachings to the T or uphold good morals? At least some us try!
Another thing, these honour killings you talk about- yes they exist but you seem to have forgotton all the other knife crime/ murders/rapes/paedophilia across the board! These murders havent just occured in asian and muslim communities- you need to look at the bigger picture. All of them should be condemned!
I hope i've answered some of your questions. Thank you for asking.
