A ROCHDALE lawyer was amongst a delegate at the House of Lords who met US diplomats to talk about the political situation in Pakistan.
Immigration expert Amjad Malik joined Lord Nazir Ahmed to air concerns by British Pakistanis on US attacks inside Pakistan and its repercussions when they met the first secretary at the US Embassy in London, James Donegan and political officer, Peter Lord.
Amjad Malik, who was representing the Association of Pakistani Lawyers insisted strongly expressed his reservations over the attacks which he said not only lacked legality but will isolate it in the international community and will also be a setback for any drive against radicalisation and extremism.
Said Mr malik: "Both diplomats listened to the delegation but avoided answers to questions on US policy to strike inside Pakistan. They however stressed the need of continuing a dialogue at all levels.
"The diplomats said US wants stability in Pakistan and considers al-Qaeda, the Taliban and insurgents as a real danger to Pakistan’s internal stability as well as a threat to peace in the world and emphasised that the US is keen to work with the civilian leadership to strengthen and consolidate democracy in Pakistan."
Mr Malik was also in Brussels recently where he met former cricketer and now Pakistani politician Imran Khan at the European Parliament where Conservative MEP Sajjad Karim had organised an event to talk about the political developments in Pakistan.
