AN Oldham Muslim organisation raised more than £60,000 after appearing on a live televised charity appeal.
Volunteers represented the Oldham Muslim Centre at the Channel S studios in London during its live appeal to raise much needed funds for the organisation based on Neville Street, Coldhurst.
The show is headed by Bangladeshi presenter Rizwan Hussain and is most popular amongst Sylhetis during Ramadan when Muslims are encouraged to donate money to the poor and charitable organisations.
Said volunteer Nanu Miah who appeared on the show along with Bodrul Alam, Afruz Miah and Shundor Miah: "The community of Oldham have so far donated generously but Channel S provided us with a platform to reach people throughout the UK.
"Even then, we still had many kind-hearted people from Oldham and Greater Manchester calling up to donate.
"We were really pleased with the amount raised and are thankful to everyone who donated."
