A MOTORIST was racially abused by a teenager who threatened to stab him.

The Asian man was stuck in traffic on Eccles Road, Salford, when six youths on cycles arrived alongside his silver Vauxhall Astra.

One of the youths punched the window and when the man opened it they began hurling racial abuse.

Another member of the gang then threatened the 29-year-old with a knife.

When the motorist asked how old the youngster was, he replied `old enough to stab you'.

The man then wound up the window and headed off as the traffic began to move away.

Pc Jason Calder said: "This man was sitting in his car when he was threatened at knife point and racially abused.

"Anyone who carries a knife poses a significant threat and must be caught. This kind of yobbish behaviour is completely unacceptable.

"The victim was stuck in heavy traffic and I am certain someone would have witnessed the incident or even seen a group of about six teenagers on bikes in the area. I would appeal to anyone with any information to contact police."

The attack happened at about 4.45pm on Wednesday. The youths came onto Eccles Road from the A580 East Lancashire Road.

The youth with the knife was white, between 15 and 16, 5ft 3ins, of slim build and with either a burn or scar on one cheek. Another of the youths was white, 5ft 6ins, 16 or 17 and of medium build.
