THE end of year assembly at Werneth Juniors in Oldham was more than a little colourful – and a little special.
For the facility wasn’t only closing for summer, but preparing for a major overhaul which will see it open as a new school in September – the juniors are amalgamating with the neighbouring Werneth Infant School.
To mark the change, and the end of their association with the school as they prepare for secondary places, Year 6 pupils put on an eye-catching performance (pictured) of ‘Snow White’, complete with Bollywood-style twists.
The school was built in 1893 and is a landmark on the town’s skyline because of it's famous clocktower. Famous former pupils include world-reknowed composer Sir William Walton, opera singer Dame Eva Turner and former England football captain David Platt.
The school will reopen under a new name with Sarah Holroyd – currently in charge of the infant school – as the headteacher.
