Owners of a new barbeque and grill restaurant have been working with local organisations to promote healthier eating.

The Olive Tree on Yorkshire Street, Rochdale was official launched by Mayor Alan Godson and Mayoress Gillian Brown over the weekend.

The new restaurant, which has previously occupied by the Suhag Spice Lounge  will be serving grilled food from recipes taken from around the world said one of its partners, Arshad Ali.

Mr Ali has invested in the business alongside five other partners including former owner of Suhag, Jilad Miah.

He said: "We wanted to create a new concept for diners which included a classy venue, is aimed at families and where we can offer affordable cuisine taken from different parts of the world including Portugal, Mexico and Italy.

"I've been working with local health and well being organisations to promote healthier eating and offer fresh food that isn't packed with salt and fat."

The Olive Tree will also be offering local people training opportunities in hospitality.

Mr Ali added: "We want to invest in the community, not only by getting people to eat better, but we want to help train people up local people in the hospitality trade whether it's gaining skills in the kitchen or at front of house or both.

"Everyone involved in the business is from the local area so we know how important it is to give back to the local community."
