Great Kathmandu

There's a corner of Nepal in the suburbs of south Manchester. On Burton Road, West Didsbury, there are three restaurants specialising in cuisine from the Asian mountain kingdom within doors of each other.

Among them, Great Kathmandu has recently doubled in size by taking over the corner unit next door after nearly 25 years of serving local punters.

Swadesh

Upon entering Swadesh, one thing is immediately clear: this is a place with ambition. Already well-established in Cheshire village Bowdon – in a large Tudor house, no less – Swadesh has built a reputation for doing things differently. It now aims to bring that spark to Portland Street’s Piazza development.

The Maharaja's Table

The Maharaja’s Table had an opulent overhaul last year and the welcome we had from super-smart staff was as sparkling as the chandeliers hanging from the ceiling’s mirrored tiles.

Forts Of India

I took an old friend out for what will probably be our last meal. You probably know him. If not, you most certainly know his type: self-absorbed, distracted, intellectual but always borrowing money.

Zaika

There are many ways to judge an Indian restaurant. Price, of course; atmosphere, obviously; whether they throw in free poppadoms... well, we all appreciate that.
