A YOUNG male Asian actor is being sought to star in a sequel to the BAFTA winning film East is East.

The new film, West is West is written by award-winning playwright Ayub Khan-Din and is set in 1970s Salford. It follows Sajid’s trials and tribulations as the youngest child of a mixed race (Pakistani/white) couple.

Deep in pubescent crisis, in trouble both at home and school, Sajid is sent away to rural Pakistan where his adventures conclude with his passage into manhood.

The lucky youngster will star alongside Om Puri and Linda Bassett, who again take up their roles as Mr and Mrs Khan.

The team are searching for a boy who is around 13 years old, of dual heritage white/Pakistani or Pakistani, northern with preferably a Manchester or Salford accent.

Filming will take place in Manchester and India in 2009/10.

Any actors who feel that they are right for the part are invited to attend an open audition call between 1pm and 4.30pm on Saturday 4 July at the Friends Meeting House, 6 Mount Street, Manchester.

They will be asked to read one or two short scenes from the film - one which includes swearing. The boys must be accompanied by an adult who will be asked to fill out a form agreeing to the video recording of the audition.
