PUPILS and parents have rallied to the defence of an Accrington teacher who has been asked to stay at home while her church school investigates complaints about her vampire gothic horror website.
Samantha Goldstone, an English and drama teacher, agreed to take leave from St Christopher's CE High School, Accrington.
The school had received complaints about her "lurid" personal website, which publicises her book and poems which are written under the pseudonym Paigan Stone.
The MySpace.com page has since been removed.
But pupils have deluged a website with protests at the action taken against the popular teacher who has been at the school for three years.
They say Mrs Goldstone, 36, who lives in Whitefield and is married with one child, is the most inspirational teacher they have ever had and are demanding she is allowed back to teach their GCSE courses.
On her website, in answer to the question of who she would most like to meet, she said: "Dracula on a dark and sexy night."
And, she said her writing features "adult content with vampire eroticism, violence and blood lust."
But David Riley, of Union Road, Oswaldtwistle, a fantasy novel author who works for a firm of solicitors in Blackburn, said the matter was a storm in a teacup.
He said: "It's the first time I have ever heard of anybody being victimised because they write fantasy fiction. It's just ridiculous as her books aren't even aimed at children anyway.
"I can't see that what she's written could possibly affect her professional life as a teacher. Other teachers in the past have written far racier stuff. Where do we draw the line as there's far worse things a teacher could have done?
"I think some people are just taking advantage of this."
Mr Riley said he felt Mrs Goldstone was being unfairly targeted because she is an attractive woman.
"If she looked like Miss Marple nobody would have raised an eyebrow," he said.
However, some parents of St Christopher's pupils feel her interest in vampires is "inappropriate" for a teacher at a church school.
Headteacher Alasdair Coates said in a statement: "Concerns have been raised with me regarding the conduct of a member of staff and content on the Internet.
"These concerns have to be investigated appropriately and, while we do this, the member of staff has agreed to stay away from school. This is not an indication of guilt as we have not completed the investigation. There has been no formal suspension."
Mr Coates added: "Pupils and staff work hard to achieve high standards and expect us to look into allegations. However, it would be unfair to discuss the exact nature of the allegations or identify the member of staff."
Mrs Goldstone's book, Gabriele Caccini - The Vampire Gene Book 1, is about a 17th Century vampire who is drugged with Ecstasy by a fellow student. It has been recommended by the Good Book Guide.
She is currently working on a sequel and her poems have appeared in six anthologies.
On Monday evening Mrs Goldstone's husband Jack answered the door at their home. He said she was out of the country and unavailable for comment.
He added that both he and his wife had been advised not to talk to the press while the matter was under investigation.
The story has appeared in the national press and in America where it has been reported in the Washington Post.
- GOTHIC horror classics such as Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and Bram Stoker's Dracula are on the syllabus of the Assessment and Qualifications Alliance, the largest of the three English examination boards for GCSE and A-level.

I and possibly millions of others, who believe Mrs Goldstone to be a victim of Character Assasination Thank You.

One final point is that when i was being taught by her, i soon realised that she does everything for her daughter and will have read these to her. If she thought at any point that it was inappropriate material then i can almost guarantee nobody would of heard of them.

Maybe I'll set up a website too and get paid leave from my emplyer in order to do so.
Meanwhile the governers and relevant authorities of the school show themselves to be narrow minded clowns whose actions only serve to give added publicity to that which they wish to criticise.

This is character assassination of the highest order, and is showing that the administration of her school havent moved far beyond the train of thought that sparked the Salem Witch trials.
I hope they make a huge mistake and fire her so she can sue them and own the school.
Pull your heads out of the middle ages people, a mere interest in Vampires doesn't make one evil, the devils cohort or any other such nonsense.

My daughter attends St. Christophers and have no complaints about the school or teachers.
I must admit (and I am no prude) I was shocked when she came home one day and showed me the website (my-space) which belongs to Mrs Goldstone. I donâ€TMt have any problems with the novels she writes but the other comments on her website.
eg.
1.) A picture of Mrs Goldstone comes up with her saying "Look into my eyes" then the camera went down to her breast!
2.) Under another pictures the caption said â€oeIt wasnâ€TMt me Headmaster honestâ€.
The Vampire novels for me are not an issue.
I didnâ€TMt complain to the school, but to be honest I wasnâ€TMt surprised that the issue of the website came up. All the children had this recorded on their mobiles!

her daughter is one of my best friends and hasn't been in school for the last two days because of stress and the fact it is very hard for her to get here now because miss is out of the country and her dad works in manchester.
if it had been any other school no one would have bothered but because it is a church school people have made a big fuss. if mrs lancashire (our seriously stuck up deputy head(who no-one likes)) had written the book and been on the site, parents would have sang her praises for it - because alot of people think she's wonderful. she bites our heads off for wearing make-up when she wears it as thick as my laptop.
a few of my friends think another popular teacher reported her and this is just a big popularity contest. but we all still think mrs golstone is the best teacher in school (and she throws great party's for her daughter)

I still think this is no one's business but her own.
And re T Brown's comments : She'll probably forget all about the teaching ..publicity for the book...
If she wanted to do that - she'd have done it already! I think her silence to the press has been admirable and I hope that the powers that be realise that a dedicated teacher is exactly what she is.
Even so - she should promote her novel!!! After the event - she's entitled to. And frankly if you don't like either the website or the book - you don't have to look at them!!!

I read recently that a lot of wrongly accused suspended teachers, leave the profession, even when they are offered their jobs back. I hope it doesn't happen in this case, as Accrington will be a poorer place if she does leave.
