INDUSTRIAL chemist, Mr Peter Dugdale, of The Coppice, Clayton-le-Moors, died suddenly, following a long illness at Belgarth Nursing Home last Friday (January 22), aged 76.
He started his career at Broad Oak, Accrington before moving to English Electric and then worked for more than 20 years at ICI, Clitheroe as a laboratory supervisor.
In his early years he was a keen and talented runner, winning the Three Peaks Fell Race in Yorkshire, in 1957 as a member of Clayton-le-Moors Harriers, of which he was a life-long member.
He was also an active member of Christ Church congregation, Accrington and served on the PCC for many years as treasurer and secretary.
In his later years, he was an active traveller, visiting many countries as well as a strong family man and he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
He leaves his sons Peter, Stephen and Andrew, grandchildren Stephanie, Caroline, Britney, Jack, Maisie, Faye and Sam, brother and sister David and Rosemary and companion Carrie as well as three daughters-in-law.
His funeral is next Friday (February 5), when the Rev Kevin Logan will conduct a service at Christ Church, Accrington at 1.15pm, followed by burial at St Helen’s, Waddington at 3pm.
