DEDICATED fundraiser Mrs Barbara Donohoe, of Brigsteer Close, Clayton-le-Moors, died on Monday January 23, aged 61.

Prior to her retirement two years ago Barbara served 30 years at Daniel Thwaites Brewery, finishing her career as administration manager for The Managed Houses, Pub Division.

She had been a fundraiser for almost 20 years for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Barbara’s commitment to this great cause was recognised when she received The Macmillan Presidents medal for 10 years of outstanding service to the charity in 2001, presented to her by the Duchess of Kent. In 2008 Barbara was awarded the Richard Hambro Macmillan award in recognition for her exceptional leadership skills.

Barbara also served as the chairperson of The Hyndburn Committee of Macmillan Cancer Support as well as in committees including The Daniel Thwaites Charitable Trust, The Hyndburn Mayors Charity Committee 2008-2009 and The Social Committee for St Mary’s Church, Clayton-le-Moors.

Until recently she had worked part time at the hospice shop in Clitheroe. Daughter of the late Lily and Joe King OBE she was the wife of Jim for 27 years and was mother to Sarah and Emma, a grandmother to Pippa and mother-in-law to Dave, a sister to Kathleen, Gerard, Josephine, the late Marie Dixon, and Jeanette, and sister-in-law to David, Barbara, Peter and Dave.

Her funeral is today (Friday) when there will be a service at St Mary’s RC Church, Clayton-le-Moors at 10am followed by internment at Accrington Cemetery at 11.30 am. Donations welcome for Macmillan Cancer Support or Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology. Family Flowers only please.
