ARE you a former resident of Hyndburn who has moved abroad and who wants to get back in touch with people still living in the town? Do you know of friends or family who have moved overseas and you want to try and track them down? Well here's your chance with our new interactive map ...
In this section, we're giving an opportunity for people who were parted when locals decided to make new lives overseas to make contact once again.
If you are an ex-pat, who wants to know the whereabouts of a pal or relative, send us the details and we'll post them up here. The same is true of locals - let us know if you want to get back in touch with a local who has left these shores. You never know - they might just visit this site, read your message and you could be reunited.
Alternatively, ex-pats can write to us simply if they want to let the folks back home know what they've been up to, how life overseas is treating them, and what they miss about Hyndburn.
All you have to do to take advantage of this service is to click here to go to our interactive map of the world , then click on the part of the map where you live. Your own pinpoint will appear which you can move to the exact location you want (use the controls on the top-right of the map to move around and to zoom in and out, right down to street level).
A form will also appear which will allow you to give your name, contact details, reason for moving and anything else you want to share with us.
Please note - this information will appear live on the site immediately and is not moderated. If you feel that somebody is abusing this map service, please click here to e-mail the web editor.
NOTE: All entries received so far, which can bee seen by clicking on 'View comments' have been added to the interactive map - from now on we'd like all new entries to be added via this map and not by clicking on 'Submit comments'. Thank you.

Wayne Jones, Canberra, Australia (09/06/2006 at 06:19)
my name is Wayne Jones and I've been looking for the Haworth family from Accrington for several years off and on without any success, although June from accringtonuncovered.co.uk & the members of Accringtonweb.com have helped a great deal, I seem to have hit a brick wall.
The Haworth's, Derrick, Patricia (Pat) and Lorraine, moved out to Australia (Melbourne) back in the early 1970's but moved back to their homeland after Pat become ill and sadly passed away in 1989. We lost contact unfortunately and the only address that I still have was from Oak Avenue in Rising Bridge from way back in 1976.
They had an elder son who was serving in the British Army at the time and didn't make the trip. His name if I recall was Glen (or Glenn).
The Haworth's were terrific family friends, very much missed when they travelled home for the last time and it would be great to be able to get in contact once again to let them know how things are down here.
If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Email address is: jonesesofcanberra@yahoo.com.au
Thanks,

Janette Bann, Italy (17/09/2006 at 17:39)
I attended Ernest St Infants, Hyndburn park Juniors and Accrington High School (Mabel Horne was the Head).
I left Accy in 1967 for Durham University, and after that only returned fot holidays and short periods of unemploment.
I have lived in the South of Italy for 30+ years: have a 30 acre farm which produces fruit, olives and wine. Teach English part-time in the local sink-school, also Italian to the foreign inmates of our local gaol.
Have kept in touch with some school-chums: Andrea Haworth, now living in Sandwich, Kent; Janet Butterfield who runs her own English school in Greece; Andrew Varley, AGS, who was Headmaster of Moreton Hall, Suffolk, Deputy Mayor of Bury St Edmunds and spokesperson for the Institute of Alchohol Studies, and who died of cancer last November.
Other chums were (High School) Louise Wrigglesworth, Helen Barrett, Marion Eccles, Virginia Allen; and at AGS Phillip Cunliffe (Grass), Tom Dean, Stephen Moss, Iain Noble, John Virtue, Alec Webster.
Anyone still around?

the last 2and half years and being retired I have at last found time to look into the Accrington Observer website.
Other Accrington Exiles inparticular,I found two lots of old friends Mike & Marion Pettifer in Canada and Pat Lightfoot in Austrailia with whom I have corresponded what a great website.
Having work in many parts of the world until returning to Accrington in 1984 were I had a butchers shop on Plantation St. and later The Chefs Kitchen
outside caterers.I lost touch with a lot of people.
I find now a good time to rekindle acquaintances for we do not know whats around the corner. Good luck to the Observe ,The Stanley and any one who knows me.

It is now over 33 years since I left Accrington, or should I say Baxenden, because that is where I was living at the time. In fact for about 18 months I was employed by the Accrington Observer and Times initially as a compositor then moved onto the linotypes. This would ahve been between 1968 - 1970. My mother Margaret and father Harold, lived initially in Canal Street in Church, then moved to Lime Road and then from there moved to Laund Road in Baxenden.
My wife at that time, a girl called Jean, whose maiden name was Rushton. Her father had the Newsagent/Post Office at Rising Bridge. When we were married we lived in Coleridge Drive, Baxenden. We moved to Mitcheldean in the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire.
Anyway we separated and subsequently divorced in 1977.
I remarried in 1978 to a girl from Cheltenham, Marilyn. We moved to Australia in November of 1982,
In my teens I lived in Accrington and was apprenticed as a compositor at Nayler The Printer in Church.
I did have a very good friend there called Alan Cornthwaite, who over the years have lost contact with.
there was also another childhood mate called Geoff Smith and another called John Wells. It would be good to know what happened to them. I know geoff was working for a time with a refrigeration company servicing commercial business around the area. John Wells, it seem to remember worked at one of the local councils.
Also another friend who in fact was in my years when going to learn composing was a Geoff Pendergrast. His father had a business in Oswaldtwistle called Gem Press. Don't know if ti is still there now.
Anyway that might be enough for now. If anyone out there wants to get in touch I would be pleased to ehar from them.
